About the Seminars

Exploring global health issues that affect people, animals and the environment

The seminar series in global health is an opportunity for UF students and faculty to participate in a forum for discussion of global health and development issues relevant to the public and our professions. Not only is this is an opportunity to further develop our knowledge on global health, but our capacity, ability and sensitivity to communicate more effectively with people and professionals in different disciplines. We believe this forum on campus will generate innovative ideas and a new dimension for future global health research, education and outreach activities that you can be part of. Join the seminars, develop a more global perspective and be more competitive in today’s global society.

In the context of global health, there is a need for professionals in the health and social sciences and the arts to collaborate in the fight against diseases, poor nutrition, education and other traps that slow human progress in the developing world. For many years, UF faculty and students have been working independently on dental, medical, and veterinary outreach activities in rural communities in the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia and Africa. This year, faculty from the Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, and Veterinary Medicine are working together in developing a new culture of One Medicine.
The Seminars in Global Health was the recipient of a 2008 University of Florida International Center "Internationalizing the Curriculum Award" in the Global Studies Category.
